As we begin Advent and reflect on the gift of the Nativity, what an appropriate time to also reflect on our gifts to the Lord. Have we been generous with our time, talent and treasure? Have we prepared for God a feast, or have we given him our leftovers?
If you are considering a first or additional gift this year, there is still time. Charitable contributions made by Dec. 31 can help to generate income tax deductions for 2015.
Some wonderful giving opportunities that I would like to draw attention to are two of the endowment funds of the Diocese of Duluth.
The Catholic Religious Education Endowment Fund grants money to Catholic education initiatives in our diocese such as conferences and schools.
The Human Life and Development Fund provides grants to organizations that promote the sanctity and dignity of all life. More information can be found on the diocesan website, www.dioceseduluth.org. Checks must be made out to the endowment fund.
The TV Mass is another great initiative in the diocese, providing Sunday liturgy on WDIO/WIRT-TV for the homebound. Donations can be sent to the Diocese of Duluth at 2830 E. Fourth St., Duluth, MN 55812, made payable to TV Mass.
Your home parish is, always a great place to support as well. Is there a giving tree in the parish gathering space? Adopting a needy family could be a meaningful way to ring in the holidays.
If you are not sure where to start, contact the development office at (218) 724-9111 to discuss what giving opportunities best fit your interests. May God bless your generosity.
