Rosary for freedom, life, family

Anointing of the sick

Anointing of the sick is available the first Sunday of the month at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 315 S.W. 21st St., Grand Rapids. All are welcome to receive this sacrament of healing at any time during an illness or struggle. Anointing is available any time by calling the church at (218) 326-2843. Also, healing prayer is offered the second Sunday of the month at 9:15 a.m. in the church. Handicap accessible.

Mass on TV

The Diocese of Duluth sponsors a televised Mass at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., on WDIODuluth and WIRT-Hibbing. Chaplet of Divine Mercy

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed for religious freedom, respect for life and family, and freedom of conscience of all people of faith after the 12:05 p.m. Mass, Mondays, at St. Mary’s Hospital Chapel, 407 E. Fourth St., Duluth.

Carmelite community

Communion and Liberation

Communion and Liberation is an international Catholic movement that helps participants have a daily experience of faith. Rosaries for life

Blessed Nuno Society rosary

All are invited to join members of the Blessed Nuno Society as it continues to celebrate its 30th anniversary with the fourth rosary in honor of Our Lady of Fatima on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Log church tours

Tours are being offered of the old log church at Sts. Mary and Joseph Church in Sawyer. See the oldest altar and Stations of the Cross in the Diocese of Duluth. Living In Recovery Seminar

A Living In Recovery Seminar is held the third Tuesday of the month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at McCabe Renewal Center, 2125 Abbotsford Ave., Duluth. Newcomers are always welcome. This group works on ongoing life management issues such as spirituality, emotional recovery, forgiveness, relationships, healing and understanding recovery as a daily “way of life.” At least six months’ recovery from an addiction or a completed treatment process is preferred for attendance. Facilitator: Benedictine Sister Pauline Micke, spiritual director. Sister Pauline was a licensed counselor for nine years working with people with addiction and dual addictions and has a master’s degree in theology. Suggested freewill offering $5 per session. 20th century martyrs retreat

A retreat, “Greater Love Than This: Two 20th Century Martyrs,” will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, at St. Scholastica Monastery, 1001 Kenwood Ave., Duluth. Facilitator: Benedictine Sister Sarah O’Malley. Two martyrs who sacrificed their lives in solidarity with their people each teach us how to live out God’s mercy and love: Edith Stein (St. Teresa Benedict of the Cross), Carmelite martyr, Jewish Christian, 1891-1942, died in a gas chamber at Auschwitz, conscious identification with the Cross of Christ; and Oscar Romero, archbishop, martyr of San Salvador, 1917-80, assassinated while celebrating Mass. Breakfast fundraiser

Father Solanus Casey Fraternity

The Father Solanus Casey Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order meets the third Sunday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 2430 W. Third St., Duluth (lower level). Secular Franciscans are lay Catholics and diocesan priests who commit themselves to living lives of simplicity, prayer, peacemaking and service to the church and others, especially the poor. Public square rosary

Our Lady of Fatima, Garrison, and Holy Family, Bulldog Lake, hold a Public Square Rosary the fourth Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. near the big walleye fish at the lookout on Mille Lacs Lake in Garrison (Highway 169). All are invited to join in prayer. The rosary is prayed for the intentions of our Blessed Mother, the conversion of sinners, and to reconcile ourselves, our families and our nation back to God. Adoration (Crosslake)

Mass in Onigum

A monthly Mass will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, at St. John Episcopal Church, Onigum, with Father Francis Kabiru and parishioners from St. Agnes Church, Walker, attending. Mass is celebrated the first Thursday of the month. This is the parish’s attempt to be present and to reach out to those not having Sunday Masses in their village.
