Communion and Liberation school of community

Duluth Communion and Liberation School of Community meets every Friday evening at 7 p.m. at different locations in the Duluth area. Begins with prayer, singing, sharing experiences, what’s been discovered, and concludes with a potluck. The community is a companionship that educates. Rosary for freedom, life, family

The rosary is prayed for religious freedom, respect for life, and family Saturdays at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St., Duluth, at 10 a.m. Contact the Cathedral at (218) 728-3646 for information.

Contagious creativity workshops

Contagious Creativity workshops will be held at the St. Scholastica Monastery, 1001 Kenwood Ave., Duluth. Each program has its own special registration form which can be found on the website www.duluthbenedictines.org/mccabe. The event Saturday, July 8, from 2 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., is for children entering the seventh and eighth grades in the fall of 2017. Activities include hand-painted cookies, Boca painting, Catch the Dragon’s Tail, and more. Program cost $20, scholarships available. The second opportunity is held Monday, July 24, through Friday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is for children entering the fifth and sixth grades in the fall of 2017. Mystery painting, nature’s thumb prints, nature detective, instant identities, and more. Program cost $100, scholarships available. Register early, limited to 20 students. Facilitator for both programs is Benedictine Sister Dorene King, a licensed teacher and director of McCabe Renewal Center.

Mass on TV

The Diocese of Duluth sponsors a televised Mass at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., on WDIO-Duluth and WIRT-Hibbing. Donations are welcome and can be sent to TV Mass, 2830 E. Fourth St., Duluth, MN 55812. Please make checks payable to TV Mass. For information contact the diocese at (218) 724-9111.

Lectio divina

Lectio divina (“divine reading”) is a way of reading the Scriptures in which one gradually lets go of one’s own agenda and opens oneself to what God wants to say. A group meets in the St. Lawrence Church parish office, 2410 Morris Thomas Road, Duluth, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on most Sundays during the school year. Tridentine Mass

The extraordinary form of the Roman rite (Tridentine Mass) is offered at noon the second Sunday of the month at St. Andrew’s Church, 1108 Willow St., Brainerd. Booklets with Latin-English parallel text are provided. For more information, call the parish at (218) 829-1340.

Kateri Circle (Duluth)

The Kateri Circle at St. Lawrence Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Road, Duluth, will meet Sunday, July 9, at 1 p.m. They meet the second Sunday of the month. Contact Michele for more information at (218) 591-0556.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed for religious freedom, respect for life and family, and freedom of conscience of all people of faith after the 12:05 p.m. Mass, Mondays, at St. Mary’s Hospital Chapel, 407 E. Fourth St., Duluth.

NFP introductory sessions

Northland Family Programs holds free natural family planning introductory sessions at different sites at 7 p.m. on Mondays: Duluth – July 10 in the Minnesota Room at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center; Virginia – July 10 at Virginia Regional Medical Center; Cloquet – July 24 at Community Memorial Hospital; Hibbing – July 17 at the Hibbing Park Hotel; and Superior, Wis. – July 24 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Carmelite community

Rosaries for life

Two rosaries are prayed Wednesdays at 8 a.m. at St. Charles Parish, 308 Central Ave., Cass Lake, for an end to abortion and all crimes against life. Everyone is invited. For more information call Mary Rients at (218) 444-6209.

Salad lunch, silent auction

St. Martin’s Church, 107 N. Third St., Tower, is hosting a summer salad luncheon and silent auction Wednesday, July 12. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for the lunch is $8. Bidding on the auction baskets will start at 10:45 a.m. Winners will be announced at 12:50 p.m. This is a great opportunity to sit back and let someone else do the cooking and a chance to visit with neighbors and summer visitors. This year the church will be receiving matching funds from KSKJ Life. Proceeds will go towards the altar updates. Handicapped accessible.

Adoration

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place Wednesdays at St. Mary’s Church, 57 Horn Blvd., Silver Bay, beginning after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and continues to 3 p.m. Call the parish office (218) 226-3100 for information.

Rosary

The rosary is prayed at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 2002 Minnesota Ave., Duluth, Wednesdays at 6 p.m. A petition basket will be available for special prayer intentions placed before the Blessed Mother. Call St. Mary Star of the Sea Church for more information at (218) 722-3078.

DDCCW 100th anniversary

The Duluth Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will celebrate its 100th anniversary in the year 2020. The Duluth Diocese is a founding member of the Council of Catholic Women. The DDCCW has plans to publish a book celebrating this event. History is needed! Plans are to include the history of all parish women’s groups in the diocese. Log church tours

Tours are being offered of the old log church at Sts. Mary and Joseph Church in Sawyer. See the oldest altar and Stations of the Cross in existence in the Diocese of Duluth. The church is on the National Register of Historic Sites. Narrated tours are led by Deacon Bryan Bassa. Catholic Singles Group

Summer festival and car show

Holy Family Church, 1182 County Road 8, Hillman (three miles south of Pine Center or 13 miles north of Hillman) will host its summer festival and car show Sunday, July 16. Registration begins at 9 a.m., awards at 2 p.m. All years and makes of cars, trucks, tractors, and motorcycles welcome. Ten classes to choose from, trophies awarded in each class. Father Solanus Casey Fraternity

The Father Solanus Casey Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order meets the third Sunday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 2430 W. Third St., Duluth (lower level). Secular Franciscans are lay Catholics and diocesan priests who commit themselves to living lives of simplicity, prayer, peacemaking, and service to the church and others, especially the poor. Secular Franciscans are part of the worldwide Franciscan family, including friars and religious sisters, who follow in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi. Courage, EnCourage

Do you have a family member or loved one who is experiencing same-sex attraction? Consider joining EnCourage, a support group for Catholics seeking to balance the love of their faith with the love for their family member. Caregivers support group

A caregivers support group of Blessed Sacrament parish, Hibbing, meets at 3 p.m. in Conference Room 1 at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center, 1500 Third Ave. E., Hibbing. Grief support (Crosslake)

Public square rosary

Our Lady of Fatima, Garrison, and Holy Family, Bulldog Lake, hold a Public Square Rosary the fourth Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. near the big walleye fish at the lookout on Mille Lacs Lake in Garrison (Highway 169). All are invited to join in prayer. The rosary is prayed for the intentions of our Blessed Mother, the conversion of sinners, and to reconcile ourselves, our families, and our nation back to God. Healing Mass

The 26th annual evening of healing prayers and Mass will be held Monday, July 31, at 6 p.m., at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St., Duluth. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sacrament of Reconciliation 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; holy celebration of the Mass 6 p.m. Individual prayers for healing following Mass. Parish festival

St. Benedict’s Church, 1419 St. Benedict St., Duluth, will hold its annual parish festival Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 5:30 p.m. The parish provides barbecued hot dogs, hamburgers, and root beer floats. An inflatable bounce house and obstacle course, live music, fellowship, and fun also provided. Bring a dish to help fill in the rest. (Please put your name on your dishes.) Cancer support group

A cancer support group is held at Blessed Sacrament parish, 2310 Seventh Ave. E., Hibbing, the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Call Mary at (218) 262-5541 for information. These meetings are for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer.

Carmelite community

A third order Carmelite community meets monthly at St. Joseph’s Church, 315 S.W. 21st St., Grand Rapids. Meetings are held the first Saturday of each month. Rosary at 8:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 9 a.m. and morning prayer. KC fellowship

The Knights of Columbus Council 6791 and St. Teresa Circle of St. Raphael’s Church, 5779 Seville Road, Duluth, sponsors coffee, juice, doughnuts, and fellowship after Masses the first Saturday and Sunday weekend of each month.

Anointing of the sick

Anointing of the sick is available the first Sunday of the month at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 315 S.W. 21st St., Grand Rapids. All are welcome to receive this sacrament of healing at any time during an illness or struggle. Anointing is available any time by calling the church at (218) 326-2843. Also, healing prayer is offered the second Sunday of the month at 9:15 a.m. in the church. Handicap accessible.

KC car show

The ninth annual Knights of Columbus Marv Lutgen Memorial Car Show will be held Sunday, Aug. 6, at St. James Church, 299 Red Oak Drive, Aitkin, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is $5. Parish mission

Sister Mary Michael Fox will be conducting two three-day missions: Aug. 13-15 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 27332 Central St., Garrison, will be on the topic of Blessed Virgin Mary and consecrating oneself to her. Aug. 17-19 at Holy Family Church, 1182 County Road 8, Hillman, will be on the Eucharist and bringing oneself into a deeper union with Jesus through prayer and adoration. Diocesan Assembly

The Diocese of Duluth’s 12th annual Diocesan Assembly will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Marshall School, 1215 Rice Lake Road, Duluth. Joe Miller, executive director of the Magis Center, will speak on the theme “Has Science Killed Faith? Encountering God in an Age of Unbelief.” Miller will show the scientific evidence for God’s existence and will explain how a person’s understanding of God affects the attainment of ultimate happiness.
