New ultrasound blessed
The Knights of Columbus Msgr. O’Shea Council 15761 at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth, in cooperation with Hayward, Wis., Knights of Columbus Council 6587 donated a new ultrasound 3D/4D machine to the Women’s Care Center in Duluth. The donation was made possible by a matching grant from the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council in New Haven, Conn. Bishop Paul Sirba blessed the machine at a ceremony on Wednesday, July 12, at the Women’s Care Center. It is thought that this is the first time that Knights of Columbus councils from two states have collaborated to donate an ultrasound machine to an organization.
Together for Life honors Kolar
The sixth annual Together For Life Banquet was held on Sunday, April 30, at the Greysolon Ballroom in Duluth. This event is designed to raise involvement and funds to promote a culture of life in the Northland. More than 200 guests attended this year’s event, showing their dedication and support in protecting all life from birth to eternity. Collaborative partners who will benefit from the more than $34,000 in funds raised included BirthRight, Northland Family Programs, Blessed Nuno, Diocese of Duluth Marriage and Family Life Office, Diocese of Superior Respect Life Office, and Together For Life. This event has assisted Together For Life to achieve its continued original mission: helping local life-affirming organizations function as true partners within the community, collaborating together to serve women, children, and families in need. The emcee for the evening was Father Nick Nelson, who is now pastor of St. Mary, Cook; St. Martin, Tower; and Holy Cross, Orr. The opening prayer was led by Pastor Dave Ballard from House of Refuge Church. June Bee sang during dinner. Rebecca Ballard, the keynote speaker, shared her testimony of choosing life and adoption for her first child. The evening also included Dan Walch, a member of the Together For Life board of directors, who gave an update regarding the recent transition to Together For Life and the vision moving forward, which includes possibly adopting an Aligned for Impact project to reduce abortions to zero in the Northland. During the banquet, Bernie Kolar was honored with the fifth annual Father Crossman Culture of Life Award, and Birthright of Duluth with the second annual Culture of Life Organization Award for its 46 years of service. The banquet concluded with Father Tom Foster giving a closing prayer.
