Deacon Terence ‘Terry’ F. Twomey, 81
Deacon Terence F. Twomey, age 81 of Cloquet, passed away Wednesday, June 21, at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. He was born June 24, 1935, in Grand Rapids to Patrick and Hilda (Hietala) Twomey. He graduated from Nashwauk High School and also from Itasca Community College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Twomey was united in marriage to Lillian Minerich on June 22, 1957.
Twomey worked in law enforcement as a Minnesota State Highway Patrolman and also as Carlton County Sheriff. He also served as a deacon for Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. Twomey was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Welsh Council 5132; Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979, where he served on the Honor Guard; Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262; neighborhood Boy Scout commissioner; and Habitat for Humanity.
Twomey was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Melin. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; children Timothy (Michelle), Teresa (Brad), Kathleen (Steve), Dr. Patrick (Kari), and Michael; grandchildren Amy (Brett), Sean (Lisa), Autumn, Hunter, Hannah, August, Will, Joe (Heather), Katie (Mark), Aaron (Elise), Anne, John, Lauren, Noah, Kathryn, Andrew, Connor and Patrick; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Lacoursiere and Audrey Charest; brother-in-law John Melin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 23, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. Interment services were to be held at New Calvary Cemetery with military honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
