“Walking Toward Eternity”

DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY: The diocese's 9th Annual Assembly will be held at Marshall School, Duluth, on Oct. 4. Featured presenter is international speaker Thomas Smith, co-author of Walking Toward Eternity. Registration available here.

NEWLY MARRIED MINI-RETREAT:  The Office of Marriage and Family Life for the Diocese of Duluth is holding a Newly Married Mini-Retreat for couples who have been married for 8 years or less. This mini-retreat will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth Street in Duluth. The Diocese’s 125 Anniversary Mass will follow in the Cathedral at 4 p.m., and retreat participants are encouraged to attend. Register for the Mini-Retreat here.

DIOCESAN ANNIVERSARY: A celebration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Duluth will kick off with the Diocesan Assembly (above) and with a Mass of Thanksgiving Sunday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m., at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, followed by a simple reception. The diocese’s patronal feast day, Our Lady of the Rosary, which is normally celebrated on Oct. 7, will be transferred to this special Mass.

FIRST ANNUAL ANNIVERSARY MASS & LUNCHEON:  Couples from the Diocese of Duluth that are celebrating the marriage milestone of 10, 20, 25, 30, 40 …. are invited to our first annual Anniversary Mass and Luncheon on Oct. 19. Mass will be at 1 p.m. with Bishop Sirba and lunch will follow at Holy Rosary School, 2802 E. Fourth Street, Duluth. All are welcome at Mass, but space for lunch is limited to the first 200 who reserve a spot. The lunch will be free for the celebrating couples. However, additional family members are $10/person. The cost per family member will increase to $15 per person on Oct. 6, and all reservations for lunch close on Monday, Oct. 13. More information here.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY: In an important ruling touching on religious liberty issues, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby, which was challenging part of the contraceptive mandate of the Affordable Care Act.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT: Bishop Paul Sirba, in December 2013, released names of clergy credibly abused of sexual abuse of a minor. More information is available here.
